frequently asked questions

Why should you have a coach?

In ancient times people looked for advice when they had to make important decisions. They consulted the oracle, looked at the stars or searched for other signs that could support their decisions. Why didn’t they just ask their tribe members or neighbours? Maybe they did.

But in some cases you’d rather be consult someone who’s not directly involved.

I had the privilege of being coached when I was in a difficult situation at my last employer. I was not getting along with my boss, the company and in the end, myself. I was in a burn-out knowing what I didn’t want but not what I wanted instead. My boss gave me the gift of a wonderful coach, who helped me to clarify my next steps, my own chemistry, why some of my collaborations were so difficult. Next to that, I also worked with a career coach in my own time with my career cheques. And I didn’t tell my boss.

Why? What makes it so difficult to be open about coaching? Though we have many happy clients, they happily provide enthusiastic references as long as their name is not mentioned. At the time I wanted to figure things out in my own time. I didn’t want to admit that maybe I wouldn’t stay at the organization, that I was in doubt. And I was also afraid my company would see that as ‘infidelity’.

Still. All of this shouldn’t keep you from being coached. This is why.

Why do I need a professional?

1 – A coach is (as) independent (as possible)
Your friends, family, partner
,… they all mean well and want you to be OK, so they give you tons of advice. About what they think would be right for you. And as good as it feels that people care, this makes is difficult to tell them that you disagree or that their advice isn’t actually helping you. What if you want to start a business or leave a very secure job and your family thinks that is the most ridiculous idea ever?

2 – Sometimes you need a professional
When you have a teeth problem, you see a dentist. When you’re ill, you go to your doctor. Why would you DIY when you have a career issue? Unlike the historical and famous oracles, coaches don’t ‘channel’. Coaching is a profession that requires head and heart, techniques, knowledge and experience that we apply to look for the best suitable answer to your question together with you. You’re consulting a qualified expert.

Self investing? Personal growth?

A while ago a starting coach told me she admired that Make me Fly! has a clear brand and promise for our clients, but that she wasn’t there yet. Believe me, I wouldn’t be where I am now for myself and my business just by ‘organic growth’! In the past 5 years I literally spent thousands of euros each year on my own training, coaches and different experts. I wouldn’t have made it this far without these investments. And most of all: I still wouldn’t have been clear about what my promise to the world is. This clarity helps our clients too. After all, what benefit would a career coach bring when she doesn’t see things clearly herself…

What are you waiting for?

So, if you’re hesitating to start working with a Coach because you’re afraid of what other people might think about it, or the costs! It’s your life, not there’s and you know that the benefits outweigh the costs.

So,  Why wait?
